If one of your geometric faces have 40 mm breadth, then use elements of size 4 mm to get minimum 4 elements along the breadth. Make sure you have atleast have 4 elements along the cross section eg. Face sizing works better than contact sizing in my opinion. If you have a contact between bodies, try to specify the same number of elements for the faces that are in contact. Try to specify local mesh controls with Tests because hex mesh is in general not suitable for complex geometry. Specify local mesh controls ( size control etc.).
